Our unique widebeam course has been designed to offer both newcomers and widebeam owners, the chance to gain hands-on experience and build their knowledge to handle and live aboard their boat.

Our widebeam specialist who is RYA Inland Helm certified has many years boating and instructing experience. He also owns and lives on a widebeam and will be happy to help you to get to grips with yours. He will join you on your boat for the day to give you specific advice and instruction, to help you understand and handle your own boat.

This is a practical hands-on training programme designed to not just build your confidence and competence with a widebeam on the canals and rivers, but also how to maneuverer your boat in a marina environment, so that you can access wharf side services when required.

What You’ll Learn:

• Rope handling and knots: Learn essential techniques for mooring and casting off.
• Basic engine starting and checks: Understand how to operate and maintain the boat’s engine.
• Internal systems: the basics of how your onboard gas, electric and water operate. How to look after them and get the best out of them for a comfortable stay aboard.
• Parts of the boat: Identify key components and understand their functions.
• Helming: Learn to manoeuvre your boat effectively on the canal and in the marina.
• Locks: Gain experience in navigating locks and using the lock gates.
• Bridges: Learn how to pass under bridges safely.
• Mooring and casting off: Practice these essential skills.
• Safety: Cover important safety protocols, including man overboard procedures.
• Teamwork: Learn how to work effectively with crew members.

• Navigation:Understand how to navigate canals and rivers safely
