Why Take This Course:

The RYA First Aid course is designed specifically for anyone spending time afloat or taking part in watersports – from inland waterways to coastal. It goes beyond a standard first aid course and will equip you with essential life-saving skills both on land and in a water environment.

At Calcutt Training you will also be able to take your classroom knowledge and put it into practice in our first aid scenario training onboard our narrowboat training vessel, as part of your course.

Although the RYA First Aid course has a water focus, everyone will still be very welcome to join us. The first aid techniques we teach are generic and could help you save someone’s life one day.

Our training centre is equipped with the latest interactive feedback CPR dummies and AED trainers – allowing for a 1:2 equipment training ratio.

What You’ll Learn:

During the course we will cover a breadth of first aid topics including:

The role of a first aider
Situational awareness and causality assessment
CPR and AED training – including drowning procedures
The recovery position
Head injuries, fractures, bleeding and burns
Treatment of Shock
Cold water shock and hypothermia
Seasickness and dehydration
Calling for medical assistance or advice by VHF/DSC
Helicopter rescue prep
CAT-C First Aid kits

Class Size: Max of 8 students. Minimum age 16years old.
Prerequisite: No previous experience needed
Instructor: An RYA First Aid instructor
